    Default Islamic Republic of Fallujah

I've stumbled across a topic which I am presently obsessing with, and am hoping to write an article about. The problem seems to be that while I can find many (biased American/British) sources about the topic in question, there are virtually no Arabic sources or accounts of it.

What is this topic? It is the emergency of an autonomous government in the city of Fallujah. With its own civic government, judicial system, economy, military and public infrastructure, this experiment in revolutionary government is very interesting to me and I believe has value for others to understand. While I am glad as hell the US and Iraqi armies swept it away, I think in its short (less than a year) existance, it is significant enough to warrant study.

So I am coming to this forum...does anyone know of any sources which might shed more light on the political/governmental structure of Fallujah's Islamic Republic?

    Hello-
I see that you are a junior member of globalsec and British but reside in the us according to your ID. Are you a student, if so you may want to visit the ciaworldfactbook or state department websites here in the USA. In 2004 the US forces fought two major battles in Fallujah and apparently a cease fire was orchestrated by a former Iraqi General known to the locals. As far as an autonomous local government it would be made up of Sunni and not Shi-ite tribal leaders or sheiks who have lots of influence. Al Fallujah like Al Rhammadi are Sunni 'suburbs' just west of Baghdad. In the towns south of Baghdad where the Shi-ites have majority, the religious leader Muktadr al Sadr took local control briefly but was driven out by coalition and Iraqi national forces. The Anbar awakening allowed local militia to be deputised to remove foreign financed terrorists from attacking civilians there.
