Hello, I am doing genealogy research. My Great Uncle retired from the USAF after many years of service, he joined in 1947. He died a bachelor about 30 years ago and sadly I only met him once. I know was a member of the 509th Composite Bomb Group as he was stationed at Roswell AFB for a time. I do not have any records of his service among his things and my family do not know details. Among his medals is the Presidential Unit Citation, it is still on his Dress uniform. He was a Senior Master Sargent and I know he worked on the flight line but I can not find any of his paper work. I have requested his records from the National Archives but not being a next of kin I fear the information I will receive will be very limited and it will take some time.
I asked a question about the 509th in the Air Force forum but the only reply I have gotten is from someone wanting to know who I am. I, like many, did not read the full text of the TOS but is it customary for someone asking a question to have to tell their name?

I am very puzzled by this, can anyone help?
Hello Elrod,
interesting, I have just had a look about this unit on its wikipedia page..
I am glad if I could have helped. I hope you are going to find the info you are searching for.
I found out that he did not get the PUC while in the 509th because they have never been awarded that medal. Just have to wait for the records to come through from the National Archives and see where else he was stationed and what other units he was in to find out. Thanks for your help and that YOU for not giving me the third degree over this.
