According to the US Navy, as of last week, de Gaulle was down and out from an Engineering Casualty, that was discovered on Sea Trials coming out of the refit. Official French PR says it could be back in weeks. However we tend to think this particular casualty my require a dry docking. In that case we're talking about months not weeks.

IMO, Im in the USN so Im biased, they might as well call this carrier Building- 91. The Frog Navy has bad luck with Carriers because they name all of them after inept Generals.

Hi,

She has finished the IPER (Interruption Périodique pour Entretien et Réparation) -sort of RCOH- 2 months ago, but she's back at her pier, some troubles have been detected in propulsion system. Expected delay between 4 and 6 months.

Have a nice day, regards,

Don't forget their reactor problems...

MI6 was probably there to see how not to shield a reactor.

Honestly, in my opinion, I don't see a single reason to let France back into the NATO military structure....they left of their own accord, they can defend themselves. According to Chuck Horner, they weren't too enthused about being under American control there, even though the US was fixing Europe's mess AGAIN! (Remember, it was France and the UK that divvied up the Mideast). I have no problem with the UK--they jumped at the chance to help out, France was whining the whole time--probably because they couldn't get a decent Bordeaux inside the KSA.....just fixing that Charlie-Fox, we're even for the Statue of Liberty.

I like the French people, but seriously, the US isn't the only country that screws up (cough)Robespierre(cough).

what???, it was us that ****ed up the middle east, and its been us ever since we decided to support of little lap dog Israel and countless other times. It was us that backed Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war, before that we supported Iran. And it was us who went to Iraq in 91(well we have no choice there, need the oil flowing)It is us the armed the Saudis wile their prince and kings spend billions on them self and that country is basically a **** hole considering the amount of oil revenue they get and we keep on taking about democracy...and i pretty sure Saudi Arabia is not really very democratic. It was us that armed the same terrorist that we fight now in the 80s to fight the Soviets...man we **** up so much more than the french, and yes you could point out that **** they ****ed up with in africa and south east asia but we managed to **** things way more than the french.

I don't know, because problems seems very serious on the propulsion plant. Anyway, if you're interested, I visit French MoD's website everyday, so I'd be able to tell you when she's sailing away.

Anyway, it's real problem. France wants to build a 2nd carrier (conventionnal propulsion), but it has a cost. Today exactly starts the building of 3rd LHD-like Mistral, but about destroyers, it's terrific. 2 Horizon AD destroyers, and out of 17 initially planned FREMM frigates, final number could be 8/9.

Have a nice day, regards,
